Sedimentary Limestone hosted chalcocite similar to Kennecott deposit in Alaska, >5 km strike length, >600m wide, with one mineralized bed >2m thick (horizontally outcropping on surface). Copper in underlying basalts similar to Michigan deposits. Fissure, vesicular and disseminated styles of deposits; mineralization consists of azurite/malachite, chalcocite, covellite, native copper and bornite. Land Area: 8 Km2, >6km strike length of basalt unit
Ore Grade: samples grading over 33% Cu, 7.9 oz/t Ag, 41% Mn. 10m @ 1.45% Cu 0.84 oz/t. (sea Level), 4.8% Cu, 1.29 oz/t Ag at 65m above (same structure).
History: Explored and selectively hand mined in 1850's and the 80m vertical cut (in the photo below ) from workings early 1920's (un-mined sedimentary unit above, copper bearing limestone is top layer). Manganese test pits and sampling undertaken in 1940's and 1960's.
