This area of Kilkivan - spectacular high country - is noted for a range of mineral discoveries over many years, including gold, silver, copper, lead, cobalt, nickel.
The lease and adjacent blocks are located in massive serpentine and pophrey, indications of massive volcanic eruptions. A mountain of copper and silver, drilled in 1970 to 900 feet by Mines Department Queensland, and Pechiney drilling. Copper exists to great depths.
Lease and all four blocks covered by 1861 Alienation of Minerals Act, whereby owner owns a nominated mineral, in this instance, copper is owned in perpetuity. The new owner will inherit this right. This has restricted prospecting and pegging as owner of the land must be paid for copper extracted.
