This property is a 40km 2 parcel of land located in southwestern Albania in the village of Dukat, illustrated in Figure 1. This land has recently been tested and there was found to be dolomite.
In the past, the land has been mined by the Albanian government and used in the steel and glass making industry, although dolomite has numerous uses. The mine has been abandoned due to the collapse of the Communist Albanian government and has been returned to its previous owners, the Canaj family, in 1998. As shown in Figure 2, the mining equipment, is still onsite and still operational. In addition to this, a roadway and rail system is located in close proximity to the mine to allow ease of transportation of the mined material to the nearby (approximately10km) deep-sea port located in Vlorë. The mountain range shown in Figure 2 and 3 illustrates the lands that contain dolomite and are owned by the Canaj Family.
Two samples were retrieved in January 2000 from the existing mine by a qualified geologist residing in Albania. These samples were flown to Ottawa, Canada and tested at the Canadian Federal Government/Mineral Sciences Laboratories – CANMET. The X-ray diffraction results, identify the samples as dolomite, which has the general formula CaMg(CO3)2. Further chemical analysis.
