PDAC - a quick review

General

This year's PDAC convention proved to be a very popular event with record attendance. The main topic of conversation was of China and the mining opportunities that this vast country offers.

As it has done for the past 14 years, InfoMine had a booth manned by Graham Baldwin (President) and Neil MacRae (Account Manager), positioned in the Investor's Exchange. There was a constant stream of visitors to our booth and a lot of interest in what we had to offer. It was a great opportunity to meet all of you who are already subscribers and familiar with InfoMine. It was also good to be able to welcome new subscribers and advertisers.

Our daily print edition of the Headline News Digest proved to be as popular as ever, being distributed each day to every booth at the show (over 300 mineral exploration companies and over 300 suppliers / government organizations). More copies were distributed to visitors who came to the booth.

This is without question the premier mining show in North America and definitely one not to be missed. See you all next year!

If you have any questions concerning this, please contact Graham Baldwin.

Companies/Properties:

LSE & LSE-AIM listed mining companies added to InfoMine db!

All mining companies listed on the LSE (London Stock Exchange) and LSE-AIM (London Stock Exchange's Alternative Investment Market) have been added to InfoMine's company and property database.

The mining companies were added as part of the international expansion of our database to fulfill the expanding needs of our users seeking information on the global mining industry. Currently the LSE and LSE-AIM listed mining companies have been added at the 'Development' classification which includes contact information as well as links to the company website.

InfoMine db now lists 34 mining companies trading on the LSE and 56 mining companies trading on the LSE-AIM. The LSE-AIM has seen tremendous growth in the last year as the junior exploration market has expanded, fueled by the significant rise in metal prices.

To see a complete list of mining companies trading on these exchanges please use the preset "Popular Mining Company Searches" listed on the home page. of the Companies/Properties section, or do a Detailed Search and search by Trading Exchange "UK - LSE" or "UK - LSE (AIM)". If you have any questions about the expansion of our companies and properties databases to include LSE & LSE-AIM listed mining companies, or other comments on the Company/Property section, please contact the section manager, Rod Young.

A New Course on Assay Quality Control by Alastair Sinclair

Quality Control of Assay Data. Bre-X and other scams might never have happened with these procedures in place! This practical course by Alastair Sinclair, Professor Emeritus of Geological Engineering at the University of British Columbia, is concerned with the principles, procedures and tools for quality control of assay data on a mineral project.

Looking back ...

Miner's Oil LampHere we show you a miner's oil lamp made from sturdy cast iron, which comes from the 1800's from Peru. Whale oil, a wick and a strong wrist was all that was required to bring light to the working face.

This particular lamp, resembling a teapot, was made by A C Wells & Co. These lamps were dangerous with their open flame, but saw use for many years. The small "pot" portion of the lamp held the fuel. On the one side it is inscribed as a "Wells' Single Torch Lamp" No 5B. On the other side the inscription is "Strength and Durability". The handle / hanger is shaped for ease of carrying, and it could be hung anywhere. This lamp was not only for use in mines, but could be used anywhere where light was needed..

For those of you who are interested in the History of Mining Lamps, we do have a short paper on our site.

If you have any interesting bits of mining "history" trivia (particularly if you can produce a photograph too) - please share it with us. We would like to continue this segment in our monthly InfoMiner.
