e3 (Environmental Excellence in Exploration) is a comprehensive reference of recommended practice for exploration, developed through the contributions of mining industry leaders and managed by the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC).
e3 is available in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese. PDAC is working with EduMine to develop courses to provide online certification in recommended practice and field-proven guidelines for exploration activities, community engagement and environmental management. e3 certification empowers users to take responsibility for environmental stewardship and community engagement and to minimize the impact of exploration. more »
Understanding and managing the interactions along the interface between business, community, and government is becoming an increasingly critical component of managerial competency and organizational success.
The focus of this new course by Glenn Sigurdson is to highlight the nature and dynamics of these interactions among multiple players with different goals and concerns -- corporations, communities, First Nations, interest groups, unions, governments -- and the development of perspectives, tools, and strategies that today's leaders and managers can put to use on the ground and in the boardroom. more »
Since mining is a basic and essential industry supplying raw materials for medicines; building materials for homes, schools, hospitals, commerce, roads; fuels for heating and energy; metals for transportation (cars, aircraft and ships), machinery, communications infrastructure and other conveniences, it cannot be done away with as some extremist environmentalists would like. What would modern life be without minerals?
Miners are the harvesters of the earth's fruits. To reap those fruits, the earth must be plowed up. After harvesting, the plowed fields can be reclaimed and restored to pristine, natural beauty with only temporary disturbance to the earth. Reclamation of surface mines can profitably utilise the void space for burial of society's solid wastes while restoring the mined land surfaces to their original beauty or utility. Industry and environmentalists should rejoice. more »
