The Ambatovy project is located 80km east of Antananarivo, Madagascar. The project is based on mining two ore bodies that are about three kilometers apart. The Ambatovy (3 km by 2.4 km) and Analamay (4 km by 2.8 km)

Ambatovy is among the largest nickel projects under development in the world, with annual design capacity of 60,000 tonnes of nickel and 5,600 tonnes of cobalt.

The project plans for an open pit design with ore processing done at the site. The slurry will then be delivered to a processing plant and refinery via pipeline near the Port of Toamasina.

The engineering, procurement and construction management contractor for the project is SNC-Lavalin Group Inc. The project is scheduled to begin production in 2010.
