Goldcorp Central America

Goldcorp is one of the world's largest gold mining companies with the strongest production growth profile among all major gold producers. Goldcorp, a Canadian company headquartered in Vancouver, Canada, employs more than 9,000 people worldwide.

Goldcorp has several interests in Central America including:

• The Marlin Mine which is located in Guatemala and was commissioned in late 2005 and produces approximately 230,000 ounces of gold per year. Production at Marlin is currently expected through to 2015, however, exploration efforts continue in the area.
• The Cerro Blanco Project, which is also located in Guatemala. Cerro Blanco is an exciting project which could potentially combine a mine and a geothermal power generation plant. The feasibility study for the geothermal project is underway. Cerro Blanco could potentially start production in 2010.
• The San Martin Mine is located in Honduras and is currently in the stages of final leaching and closure. Mining of the final pit ceased in late 2007 and current closure activities include backfilling, waste encapsulation, recontouring, final leaching and revegetation activities. An active foundation continues working on sustainable development projects in the area.

Goldcorp Central America has sponsored the translation of several EduMine online courses into Spanish, in order to increase the accessibility of mining courses to the local community.
