Job Overview

The EHS Specialist role is to advise, guide and assist all levels of the business area in the development and execution of risk management processes designed to minimize loss and maximize operational performance. Manages regional specific requirements of the EHS Management Program in compliance with provincial and corporate regulations. In addition, supports any national or global EHS initiatives as part of a team. This is a twelve (12) month contract.

Reports to: National Manager, Environment Health and Safety.

Relocation: This position does not offer relocation. Candidates based out of Edmonton will be given priority.


  • Provide EHS support to the National Service Group (Field Service), and other areas as required.
  • Ensures compliance to OH&S laws, regulations and standards. Provide support and advice to all levels within the organization regarding OH&S Act, Code and Regulation, legal and other legislation as required.
  • Drives and supports the Incident Investigation and Injury Management process. Recommend corrective actions. Track proper implementation.
  • Promote and drive the use of diverse safety tools (FLRA's, Risk Assessments, Safety Inspections & Observations, Near Miss report cards).
  • Attend Area Safety meetings and actively participate in work planning processes.
  • Monitor safety performance across the business unit, analyze stats & trends, and support business management in the development of corrective and preventive action plans to improve performance to meet and exceed goals.
  • Be accessible by various levels within the organization as an impartial resource for environmental, health and safety concerns.
  • Assist and support the business by monitoring the safety performance of contractors that are performing hands on work within our business.
  • Responsible of safety related databases (Safety record spreadsheet, Incident Database, Velocity, Contractor Qualification Databases).
  • Actively work with WCB (clearance letters, claims).
  • Must be willing to travel within Canada up to 95% to our active sites.
  • Other duties, as assigned

Education / Qualification

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in an EHS role.
  • NCSO, CSO or similar designation. Occupational Health and Safety Certificate and /or Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) certification is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience and a working knowledge of: OH&S legislation, WHMIS, emergency response planning, Lock Out-Tag Out, Fall Protection, Confined Spaces, risk and hazard assessments, and incident investigations.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills, individual and team-based settings.
  • Demonstrated communication, reporting and leadership team skills are essential.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable and flexible.
  • Ability to manage a wide range of work assignments and changing priorities.
  • Be able to work in a team-oriented environment as well as independently.
  • Field experience is considered an asset.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, Power Point), internet and data base experience.
  • Up to date Safety tickets: WHIMIS, Confined Space, Fall Protection and First Aid are an asset
