Gold Fields Australia is currently seeking a Superintendent: Exploration to join the Geology department at Agnew Gold Mine.

Reporting to the Manager: Geology, you will be responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership to the site-based Exploration Team to maximise the discovery and development of gold resources. The role is offered on an 8 days on 6 days off, 4 days on and 3 days off roster.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Initiating and defining target generation activities by overseeing the development of regional, local and camp geological, geochemical, geophysical and structural models to improve interpretation and definition of geoscientific data;
  • Coordinating, guiding and contributing to the preparation and management of the exploration budget by ensuring that all strategic, operational and capital needs are adequately catered for and provide the necessary training, guidance and exposure to direct reports so that they can effectively manage all aspects of exploration expenditure.
  • Implementing budgetary processes to ensure future delivery of Resources from a well-defined exploration pipe-line to deliver on the site's strategic objectives;
  • Coordinating the activities of the Exploration team and Contractors in carrying out the work plan, ensuring that all activities are consistently aligned with project delivery and meeting the operation's targets.
  • Actively monitoring technical quality for data acquisition processes, e.g. drilling, logging, sampling and supportive exploration techniques such as geophysics.
  • Manage all tenement matters, with the GFA Tenement Administrator ensuring the operation's tenements are secure and compliant with all Mining Act obligations and responsibilities.
  • Managing, monitoring, adapting and reporting on the progress of approved exploration programs whilst providing quality technical feedback and direction and modifying project plans and aligning resources depending on exploration results and economic potential;
  • Reviewing and communicating results to relevant personnel and ensuring geological models are formally updated and signed off. Initiating follow-up drilling plans and funding requests where required;
  • Developing appropriate geological models with staff to enable appropriate Resource and Geostatistical models to be completed, to accurately assess and define the mineralisation trends within an ore body. Initiating additional drilling or exploration activities to eliminate risk and maximise opportunities at each deposit and critically review geological and Resource models based on expert knowledge of each deposit.

Key factors to your success include:
  • Bachelor of Science in Geology or related discipline;
  • Registration with national and/or international professional bodies eg, AUSIMM;
  • Minimum of 8 years exploration experience - including gold exploration, with exposure to mining geology, Resource and reserve estimation and grade control;
  • Previous experience in a senior/supervisory operational role is essential
  • Experience in regional exploration including a wide range of geoscientific exploration techniques;
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite and mining software such as Leapfrog, Datamine, GIS, Datashed and/or QA/QC; and,
  • SAMREC/JORC competent person for Resource reporting.
