A vacancy within the Glencore Coal Assets Australia (GCAA) leadership team has been created by the appointment of Dave O'Brien to the role of General Manager HSEC for the global coal business.

The role of General Manager - Environment and Community is the functional environment and community leader for GCAA. Responsibility includes development of strategy and promoting awareness & action around the systems, resources & capabilities needed for the Australian Coal business to achieve its aspirations and goals for effective management of the environment and engagement with communities in regions where we operate.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer and as a key member of the Senior Leadership Team based in the Hunter Valley, the role requires strong working relations with operations management, government & other agencies.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience in environmental management involving detailed understanding of legislative requirements for mining in NSW and QLD as well as demonstrated experience in the continuous improvement of Environmental Management Systems. Stewardship of the GCAA Community Engagement Plan and related activities is another key element of the role. These are essential attributes as champion of a progressive & effective environment and community management approach spanning multiple sites and operating complexes.

To be effective in this role you must be able to develop a strong reputation among internal and key external stakeholders on environment and community matters. This includes the provision of guidance and support to senior management as well as representation on industry committees and advisory groups.

As a minimum, applicants will have certifications in environmental science or related discipline and 7 years as a manager in the mining sector in either environmental management or senior operations role(s).
